The story so far
Known online as Benquranstudent, Ben has spent over 30 years immersed in the study of the Quran — a journey that began during a transformative period in his life when he embraced Islam and found in it a sense of direction and purpose. That turning point set him on a lifelong path of learning, leading him to earn his GED and later a Bachelor's degree in Communication, which now informs the clarity and accessibility he brings to his teaching.
Since then, Ben has built a reputation as a dedicated Quran educator, known for his open-minded, contemplative approach to Islamic scholarship. Through daily study sessions and a growing online following on TikTok, YouTube, and Patreon, he has created a space where students can engage with the Quran thoughtfully — free from judgment and open to genuine questions.
Ben founded the Misfit Muslim community as a home for those seeking a deeper, more personal connection to their faith — including neurodivergent individuals and anyone who has felt like they didn't quite fit the traditional mold of religious learning. His teaching covers not only Quranic recitation and Arabic language study, but also broader conversations around faith reconstruction and gender perspectives in Islamic interpretation, always grounded in careful scholarship and respect for the text.
Today, Ben offers Quran and Arabic instruction through informal classes, group study sessions, and one-on-one tutoring, tailored to meet students wherever they are in their journey — whether just beginning to read Arabic or seeking a deeper, lifelong study of the Quran.
